Digital and custom IC designers benefit from guided sneak peeks and faster adoption of new tools
When you are adopting a new tool or upgrading to the latest version of an EDA tool, you want to get up and running quickly so that you can focus your energy back onto your design or verification work.
Rapid Adoption Kits (RAKs), pioneered in April 2011 by the Cadence Digital Front-End Design (FED) Team, enable you to do just that. And they’re attracting a lot of interest. Since their introduction, 17 FED RAKs have generated more than 13,000 page views on our Customer Support site. Building on this momentum, the Cadence IC Design (ICD) and Custom IC Design (CIC) Teams began to offer RAKs several months ago as well.
A RAK contains a self-packaged test case that allows customers to try out a particular feature or capability of a Cadence tool at their own convenience and pace. RAKs can include demo designs, constraints, scripts, instructional documents, overview presentations, deep-dive application notes, and videos. RAKs can also be used to update customers on new capabilities, provide a “jump start” on a new tool or capability, teach best practices, and instruct customers on various methodologies.
“Customers are increasingly challenged by constraints such as fewer resources and shorter tapeout schedules,” says Yoon Kim, Group Director, Product Marketing, Cadence. “It is vital that we make their Cadence technology adoption experience as rapid and effective as possible. The RAKs have helped accomplish that, and they are accelerating our customers’ ability to successfully adopt new tools in their flow.”
Topics covered in currently available RAKs include:
- FED – Synthesis, test, and verification flow using Encounter RTL Compiler, Encounter Test, Encounter Conformal, and Incisive products
- ICD – Encounter Digital Implementation System and signoff flow including Encounter Timing System and Encounter Power System
- CIC – Virtuoso custom IC and signoff flow including Virtuoso Schematic Editor, Virtuoso Multi-Mode Simulation, Virtuoso Layout Suite, and Physical Verification System
